About Metro Acupuncture
In 1997 Anna C. Kelly, MD opened the doors of Metro Pain Center Inc. In 1999 she completed the UCLA Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course taught by Joseph M. Helms, MD. She began offering acupuncture treatments as a complement to her chronic pain patients.
In 1998 Mark A. Lewinter L.Ac. enrolled at Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Upon completion in August of 2001, Mark packed up his belongings and drove across the United States to join Metro Pain Center, Inc.
Although the practice was in its infancy, with only one treatment room, Anna and Mark combined her passion for acupuncture and his knowledge of Chinese Medicine and soon grew the practice into a full scale acupuncture clinic. It wasn't long before the practice began treating much more than pain and in 2002, Metro Pain Center, Inc., would be renamed Metro Acupuncture. Today, the clinic has nine treatment rooms with both Anna and Mark practicing acupuncture full time.
Since its humble beginnings, the team at Metro Acupuncture has given numerous presentations to hundreds of doctors' offices around the Atlanta area and has served as guest speakers at several lectures and national conferences. Anna and Mark have been featured on Fox 5 News several times and have been guests on the radio station Star 94. Anna is the president of the Georgia Association of Medical Acupuncturists, and Mark is a member of the Acupuncture Advisory Committee for the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners.
Leigh McClelland, L.Ac is our third acupuncturist at Metro Acupuncture. After being a patient of Metro Acupuncture, Leigh expressed a great interest in Oriental Medicine and decided to attend acupuncture school, earning her Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine. Leigh was welcomed back to our practice from acupuncture school with open arms after her graduation, but now she is the one giving the acupuncture treatments rather than receiving them.
Laura C. Bowman, M.D. is our fourth acupuncturist. She is a 1981 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine. In 1984, she completed her pediatric residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Then in 1987, she went on to a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She is board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology, and directed the bone marrow transplant program first at St. Jude and then at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta/ Egleston. Dr. Bowman is also a graduate of the Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course taught by Joseph M. Helms, MD.
