Metro Acupuncture's Visit to Ecuador
Dr. Kelly and Mark Lewinter traveled to Ecuador in June of 2003 for a medical mission trip. They treated over 50 people a day using acupuncture and traditional western medicine for the natives in the town of Riobamba. The natives are very poor; we learned that the average salary is $500 a year. It was a great gift to be introduced to this culture and we were grateful to help them medically.
The elevation of Riobamba is over 9000 feet. It is located in the Andes Mountains around active volcanoes.
Mark treated the patients while they sat in chairs.
An ill Quichuan man traveled to the clinic on a donkey.
The land is owned by several different families. From afar it looked like patches of fabric.
All the clothes and jewelry are handmade. The patients were kind and had a sense of peace and calm about them.
Dr. Kelly treating a baby. We found that most women had five to six children.
